Cut Through Brain Fog on the Road with These 5 Foods

Brain health is an important asset for any truck driver. Drivers need to be alert while they're out on the road for most of the day.

Our bodies are a little bit like our trucks—one mechanical issue can cause several others to come to surface. Someone could be eating a seemingly balanced diet and still be lacking necessary nutrients. They could also be eating something that is causing several health issues for them.

Certain foods can especially lead some to feel brain fog. This feeling is characterized by an inability to focus, poor short term memory, and depression. Brain fog could also be caused by underlying conditions, such as menopause or a thyroid condition. You should always see a doctor if you feel your brain fog is severely affecting your everyday life.

However, brain fog is typically caused by a nutrient deficiency, so it is likely that you can overcome it by incorporating these beneficial foods into your daily diet.

Fish

Fish—especially those that are high in healthy fats like salmon and trout—is a bountiful source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Half of the fat content in our brains is made up of Omega-3s. It is used to build brain cells and helps to fight off memory issues, such as Alzheimer's disease and learning impairments.

Coffee

It almost seems too good to be true that coffee has so many health benefits. However, America's favorite morning pick-me-up is also a great brain booster. Caffeine will make you feel alert and boost your mood, of course, and antioxidants will help protect you from neurological issues in the future.

Pumpkin Seeds

These delicious seeds are packed with zinc, copper, magnesium and iron, all of which are essential for brain function. Zinc and copper help with nerve signals sent to the brain, while magnesium is helps maintaining memory. Iron deficiencies are also often linked to feelings of brain fog. So, enjoy some pumpkin seeds any way you'd like, whether raw or oven-roasted.

Eggs

Choline is an essential nutrient for mood and memory that many people don't get enough of. Eggs are an excellent way to do so. Each egg contains 112 mg of choline—the recommended daily intake is 450 mg for women and 550 mg for men. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it's not a bad idea to eat more eggs.

Blueberries

These little berries always impress with their nutritious benefits. Anthocyanins—which give the berries their deep blue-purple color—are antioxidants that combat inflammation and can help your brain cells communicate with each other. Bake them into muffins, sprinkle them on top of some granola, or find several other creative ways you can enjoy these perfectly sweet berries.
