Don’t Sleep on These Deals: 3 Energy Boosters with None of the Crash

When you’re on the road all day, sometimes you’ll feel like there’s nothing that can get you through to that last mile. Whether the road signs being your only companion is boring you to sleep, or you just haven’t had some shut-eye in a while, the last thing you need is to get that shut-eye while the truck is still in gear. It’s time to consider your options in the driver’s seat.

Many truckers turn to the radio, caffeine, or the air conditioner in order to remain alert. However, today we’ll be discussing the on-the-go go-to healthy snacks for moments like these, which can increase your energy and alertness and will get you to where your load needs to be.

Dark Chocolate

When it comes to dark chocolate, people tend to either strongly like or strongly dislike it. It can be less popular than milk chocolate because of its bitterness. Then again, because it is naturally derived from cacao tree seeds and less sugar is added in the process of turning the seeds into chocolate, it’s the healthiest type of chocolate on the market.

But with less sugar, how will it keep you up? Cacao tree seeds, or cocoa, have a high level of antioxidants. On top of fighting free radicals, decreasing the possibility of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, antioxidants give you more energy when consumed through foods and snacks like dark chocolate. This is because it increases oxygen to the brain and muscles, enhancing blood flow and reducing fatigue.

Yogurt

From ads to stats, it seems as if women enjoy yogurt much more than men do. However, any truck driver can benefit from the creamy assortment of flavors found in the dairy aisle. This is because there are short-chain carbs in yogurt, such as lactose and galactose, which fall under the category of sugars. When broken down and digested, it provides fuel for our bodies.

Yogurt is also known to give you energy for a long time. Because yogurts are high in protein, it breaks down the carbs and allows your body to digest it slowly. In turn, the sugar is steadily released into the bloodstream and for a longer period of time than many other sugary snacks, keeping you awake and active throughout your long drive.

Popcorn

Similar to yogurt, this movie-goers’ favorite is packed with carbs that release sugar into the bloodstream. It also contains very few calories and a lot of fiber, making it another healthy and energizing snack for the road.

All you need is a one-cup serving prepared by the air-pop cooking method, meaning you’re preparing it in a pot or pan on the stove. Then, if you’d like, drizzle some melted butter, a healthy fat, onto the popcorn for added taste, and you’ve got a great snack to keep you going on your long drive.

If you’ve got less of a sweet tooth or don’t care much for snacks like these, there are a plethora of other healthy foods that can give you energy, from liquids including water and coffee to fruits like strawberries and oranges. Whatever you’re craving, take it with you. And never worry about how you’ll make it to that last mile again.
