Three More Ways to Earn Side Income as a Truck Driver

Writer's picture: Andrew CiampiAndrew Ciampi

Back in November, we gave you three ways to earn side income as a truck driver. But the trucking lifestyle provides so many options for earning a little extra cash, that we couldn't stop at just three.

Whether it's renting out a spare room, restoring—and then reselling—underpriced goods, or filling out surveys for some petty cash, truckers looking to fatten up their checking accounts have plenty of options. Here are three more ways to start earning extra revenue as a truck driver:

Rent Out Your Home With Airbnb

If you're a long-haul driver willing to rent out a spare room while you're on the road, you could boost your monthly income by becoming a host with Airbnb. Whatever type of residence you have (apartment, condo, house, etc.), as long as you have the space available (and follow a few basic hosting rules), you can make money by hosting guests through Airbnb.

Airbnb allows you to list your home for free, customize pricing and house rules, and vet potential guests via an ID check. The rental service also provides free liability insurance and property protection, both for up to $1 million in damages.

Airbnb is ideal for truck drivers looking for a steady stream of extra income—and who don't mind sharing their living space every so often. The amount of money you can ultimately make through Airbnb depends on your location. For instance, truckers who live near major cities/tourist destinations will likely host more guests than those living in rural areas.

Flip Goods for a Profit Through Craigslist

Like meeting new people? How about working with your hands? If so, consider flipping items for a profit with Craigslist. There's always plenty of goods like furniture, gardening tools, and electronics listed on Craigslist that are either way underpriced or completely free. And if you're searching for items that are small enough to fit in your cab, you may even be able to meet a few listers while you're on the road.

You can track down cheap items on Craigslist and turn a profit by simply charging a more standard price. Or, better yet, you can turn restoring damaged goods into a weekend project and then sell your work for a sizable markup.

Selling items for a profit on Craigslist is perfect for truckers who enjoy chasing down hidden treasures and find satisfaction in fixing things up. You may not make a lot of money fast, but flipping goods can be a rewarding hobby that pays for itself.

Make Quick Cash With Survey Junkie

If you frequently feel restless when your trailer is being unloaded—like you could be doing something productive while you wait, then consider joining Survey Junkie to add some petty cash to your wallet.

To be clear, Survey Junkie won't make you rich—you'll receive about 30 cents for a fifteen-minute survey. But it's easy to join and painless to use.

If you're comfortable sharing your opinions on brands, politics, or whatever else survey-makers want to know, Survey Junkie could be the cure for your downtime antsiness.
