Keeping It Cozy: Dress Properly to Stay Prepared on the Road

You're in it for the long haul as a committed truck driver. Therefore, it's important that you do everything you can to feel at home when spending long hours in your truck.

How you dress for the day has a huge impact on your job performance. You will want to wear comfortable clothes that will allow you to bend and move freely. Also, you will need to protect vulnerable parts of your body - such as your head and your eyes - from the sun.

Putting some more thought into the clothes you wear on the road will pay off greatly. You will be more comfortable throughout the day and will be prepared for any situation that you may face. You don't have to become a fashion expert by any means - you just need to anticipate what could happen and know what to wear to be prepared for it.

Consider the following options when you decide what to wear on your next long-haul adventure:

Tops

  • T-shirts and long sleeve shirts: Cotton shirts are preferable because they are breathable and help you stay cool.

  • Zip-up jacket: Always keep a basic, light jacket on you for chilly times. Zip-ups are preferable because of their ability to easily be put on and off.

  • Rain or snow jacket: The weather at your destination will likely be different than where you came from. Be prepared for various weather conditions.

  • Reflective vest: Look out for your safety and always carry one of these in case you find yourself outside your truck in the dark.

Bottoms

  • Jeans: Comfortable, practical and professional. Jeans are always a go-to option for any everyday outfit on the road.

  • Sweatpants: Some warm, cozy sweatpants are perfect for downtime in your truck.

  • Athletic shorts: These are also great to have to relax in when it's a bit warmer outside.

Shoes

  • Work boots: Stay ready with durable boots that are oil and waterproof and slip-resistant. These will especially keep you covered when loading and unloading.

  • Sneakers: Always have a pair of comfortable and reliable sneakers handy for driving and downtime.

  • Water-resistant sandals: Don't forget these for the shower!

Accessories

  • Gloves: Canvas and leather work gloves are ideal for any physical situation to keep your hands from being torn up.

  • Sunglasses: You may be surprised how easy it is to forget to bring sunglasses. Always have a pair in your truck and always wear them during the day. Your eyes will thank you down the road.
